Default What do you look for in a class?

Hi I'm new to the forums (technically). I was just curious what people looked for in professions in Guild Wars. I did a search and it surprissingly didn't bring up anything, at least not new.

So, what do YOU look for in a class? Power? Protection? The ability to pWn non-stop? And not just your class. Classes in your party. How they help you benefit etc. etc.

Personally I'm not into giving buffs or enchantments to myself, so in a party member I look for someone to do that. I guess for me that leaves the damage dealer, so I like assassins and elementalist. Nothing fancy just kill and move on. What about you?

First and foremost, I look for a class that I would enjoy playing. It's easier said than done, though, considering that I have all 6 Tyrian classes

Each class has its own role, it's ultimately up to you what you like playing the most.

I looked for class that is different from others, is some kind of spellcaster, is good for high-end pvp, is versatile, has many possibilities, is hard yet rewarding to play, is nasty to face for opponents.

Guess what I choose :P

yeah pick what you really would want to play. Basically if you think "x" class is cool go for it good percentage of the time you wont regret making that char. I didnt do that at first I got peer pressured into making a necro when I really wanted to make a mesmer, but o well multiple char slots ftw. Later on I realized war clicked with my style just about as well as mesmer did.

Im crazy take what I say with a grain of salt.

I did the same as TeeGee when it came to my selection...

a class that ultimately is versatile only differents is i chose based on PvE...

I chose the Ritualist... very versatile class imo and has an awsome solo build that has no equal(opinion)

always has room in a group whether is be party dmg mitigation or support heal or strategic dmg placement the class can be molded into ANY group

and the class has very good ability to fit with most secondaries...

Me? I like variety. That's the nice thing about having all those character slots! Sometimes I like the mindless (relatively speaking, of course), in-your-face bash, hack, and slash of a Warrior. Other times I like causing harm from a distance without getting beat up too badly myself, enter the Ranger. Most times though, I enjoy screwing up my enemies efforts to cause me or my party harm while inflicting much pain on them, I've got a mesmer for that.

I'm a support caster at heart. I have my Necro, but I enjoy my Mesmer the most (he's my new "main"). I have my warrior to farm, but I can split the time with my Mezzie too...

A class or profession that can benefit the whole team instead of just themself.

This is really more about how i like to play instead of the profession though... I'm a sucker for monks because of this, and love ritualists as well.

Ultimately, it's whatever you enjoy playing. I like being in the middle of a fight, balancing offense and defense. I enjoy having to decide moment to moment where i should be, and what I should be doing. I like having survivability, but also offense.

For me, it was axe warrior, then rangers.

Flexibility

Pretty much all classes have flexibility but I look for a class I can enjoy and remember several builds that serve different purposes. But above all I want to enjoy the class and if im not having fun with it I delete it. I created 2 rangers and put both in droks armor and deleted both cause I didnt have fun then I started a 3rd and actually began to like it. I am on my third necro atm and currently it is used for storage because i found it boring.

Balence:

Good vs. 33% of the classes. (Kills them easily or is hard to kill by them.)
Moderate vs. 33% of the classes. (Can kill or be killed in equal amounts.)
Weak vs. 33% of the classes. (Dies easily against them, or has trouble killing them.)

Challenge.
I like to play classes in a way thats difficult to play. Such as a non55 smite monk. When I'm tired of soloing, it gives me variety because I can switch to protection and healing when I want to help others. Its fun for me to see people doing more damage because of my spells, or know that I'm valuable to a team.

When I was choosing which class I wanted to play, I considered many things.

I wanted this proffesion to be as squishy as a caster, yet have to go face to face with things that kill me in 2 shots.

I wanted a proffesion that is generally hated by most of the player base, so I can have a hard time finding a group for everything.

I wanted a proffesion that knowone cares for anymore, and in rapid decline of numbers.

I wanted a class that has no role in the game whatsoever.

Yes, I chose an Assassin and I couldn't be happier. <--- That part is not sarcasm (Try gues which part is).

On another note, I am looking for people to help with a forge run in FoW, as I have all the things required for my Obsidian armour, yet all the pugs despise me.

My ign is Tai Claw.

There are lots concept class in the suggestion fourm to look at....

For me.. first I look at the "Cool" factor.. than how unique it is, what role it play, if it is interesting to play, and how well it work with other class.... of couse... most I don't think in that much detail anyway...

For me, it's simply damage output. I don't have the temperment to support my teammates, so I do as much damage as I can before going down. Hence, Warrior, Assassin, and Ele. It's a win for me when all the enemies are dead.

I look for a class that is reasonably sophisticated and looks like it needs skill to use. Or a class that no one uses

I look for a class that has Me/ in front of the name. Anything after the / doesnt rly matter to me. I salvaged my first accounts Mez Fissure just to re-make on on my other account just to get that survivor title . Also because he has purple glow now
